Nana's China Cabinet

Kia Ora! I'm Shez, and thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my store! I really appreciate you taking the time.

I actually got into making Origami back during the Lockdown of 2020. I was looking for a new hobby to keep me busy and engaged, as many of us were, and I stumbled upon the art of paper folding. It really just took off from there! I absolutely loved the process of bringing these intricate shapes to life from simple sheets of paper. What started as a way to pass the time quickly became a passion. Now, I'm so excited to share my creations with you.

Where did the name come from?

The question always comes up: Where did the name 'Nana's China Cabinet' come from? It's a name that holds a lot of personal history, a whispered secret from my childhood.

Rewind back to the vibrant, slightly hazy days of the 1990s. I was growing up, and one of my most vivid memories is of my Nana's house. Nestled in the living room, a beacon of delicate beauty, was her extraordinary China Cabinet. It wasn't just a piece of furniture; it was a portal to faraway lands, a tangible record of her adventures.

This cabinet was a treasure trove, brimming with collectibles gathered from her travels across Asia. But most captivating of all was her collection of Origami. Paper cranes perpetually taking flight, vibrant flowers that seemed to bloom within the glass, complex geometric forms that hinted at hidden stories – each piece held my gaze captive. I'd spend hours mesmerized by the skill and artistry on display, my tiny fingers itching to touch, to be a part of that world.

So, the name 'Nana's China Cabinet' isn't just a name. It's an Ode, a heartfelt tribute to my late Nana. It's a way to honor the woman who instilled in me a love for beauty, for travel, and for the magic that everyday objects can hold. It's a small way to keep her memory alive, to share the wonder and joy that her beautiful collection brought to me with everyone else.
